About Plan M8
Plan M8 is your "plan mate" the buddy who helps planning your boat maintenance. The name is a hint to our Kiwi roots.
The software was initially thought up in 2020 out of need to organise scheduled maintenance tasks on the boats where our founder worked as Chief Engineer. Over the course of his career he had used different yacht maintenance programs, but they were either hard to use, or not focusing on his job as an engineer or not really customised for his vessel. He felt the need for an improvement.
He brought this idea up with his neighbour who had founded various SaaS companies and supported founders with his coara incubator. - A new project was born.
About the founder
Graduating from Unitec Auckland, New Zealand with a Certificate in Boatbuilding and a Diploma in Applied Technology in Marine he was immediately recruited by McMullen & Wing as their junior design engineer. His fondness of the ocean coupled with the ever-expanding engineering technology within the marine industry sparked his interest in developing this into a career.
With seven years’ experience in composite Boatbuilding, Engineering and Computer aided design, combined with practical hands-on sailing experience throughout multiple countries made him an ideal candidate to embark on a career with in the Superyacht crewing Industry.
He has since held Chief and Sole engineer roles on both motor and sailing vessels throughout New Zealand & Australia, South East Asia, the Pacific, Caribbean and the Mediterranean spanning Twelve years, four Atlantic crossings and over 30,000NM.
He is the holder of a Y4, 1500KW 200GT Certificate of Competence and currently serves in the capacity of Chief engineer on a private motor yacht based on the Island of Mallorca, Spain

They were not component-specific to each individual yacht. He felt the need for an improvement. There was a vacancy for a more reliable, user friendly system and so PLAN-M8 was born
